The Impact of OCS on Life in and after the Army

OCS set the trajectory for my military and professional career. It not only instilled leadership values, it also etched into my persona the essence of command presence and the beauty of decisiveness.

My OCS experience formed who I am today. It gave me the tools/confidence/drive for the success I've enjoyed, both in the military and as a civilian. From Private (E-1) to Major General (08) and from GS-9 Action Officer to Senior Executive Service (SES) level 3 Assistant Secretary of Defense - Reserve Affairs.

OCS gave me a solid standards-based foundation to be a successful leader. What I learned at OCS served me well in my Army career and in civilian life.

I am confident in my ability to successfully assume leadership roles in business, my community and other organizations when needed. The training I had at OCS developed many of my character traits that have helped me become a better father, husband and leader.

OCS taught me how to be an effective and good leader. The 3 Ms of leadership - The Mission, The Men and Me. I have used that formula my entire life.
