Biography

Major Kern W. Dunagan was commissioned an Infantry Officer upon graduation from Officer Candidate School Class 3-63, 25 June 1963. His first duty assignment was as Admin Officer, Nuclear Weapons Command, Fort Benning, Georgia.

His subsequent duty assignments include: XO and Commander, Airborne Training Company, 4th Student Battalion, TSB, Fort Benning, Georgia; Commander, Headquarters Company and Rifle Company, 3d Battalion, 21st Infantry, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, Vietnam; Deputy G-1, 3d Armored Division, Frankfurt, Germany; Chief, Supply Division, Augsburg, Germany.

His awards and decorations include: Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross (with Gold Star), GCM, Purple Heart (2 Awards), Army commendation Medal, Air Medal (with V Device), Bronze Star (with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Medal of Honor.
