Lieutenant Colonel Winthrop Rockefeller enlisted in the Infantry in early 1941 and earned a distinguished military record during his nearly six years in the service. He served in the Pacific during the war, and participated in the assault landings on Guam, Leyte and Okinawa.
Rockefeller held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel at the time of his discharge in 1946.
His awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star w/Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
