Biography

The Honorable Dan P. Driscoll was commissioned in 2007 through OCS as an Armor Officer. He served as a cavalry platoon leader with the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. In 2009, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

The Honorable Dan Driscoll currently serves as the 26th Secretary of the Army, confirmed by the Senate on 25 February 2025. In this role, he is responsible for the oversight of operations, modernization, and resource allocation for nearly one million Active, Guard, and Reserve Soldiers, and more than 265,000 Army civilians.

In his current capacity as Secretary of the Army, he has emphasized that 'lethality' should remain central to Army priorities, advocating for the elimination of redundant systems and refocusing the force on that which advances warfighting capability. His leadership comes at a pivotal time as the Army invests in modernization, revisits its acquisition and resourcing processes, and aligns priorities for the future threat environment.

His decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Ranger Tab, and the Combat Action Badge.

Following his military service, Secretary Driscoll attended Yale Law School and worked through Yale’s Veterans Legal Services Clinic. He also has held executive and legal roles in the private sector, bringing to his service a breadth of management, legal, and business experience.
