Biography

Colonel Jeffery A. Cushing enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1982 after graduating from the University of Colorado at Denver. After completing Basic Combat Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama he reported to Fort Benning, Georgia in April 1982 as a member of BIOCC Class 4-82. Upon graduation in July 1982, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Field Artillery and reported to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for FA Officer Basic Course. While at Fort Sill, Colonel Cushing completed OBC as well as the Field Artillery Target Acquisition & Survey Officer’s Course and met his future wife, Jane Anderholt, who was also attending FAOBC at Fort Sill. After graduation, Colonel Cushing was assigned to U.S. Army Europe as a member of V Corps Artillery and served in a variety of Battery, Company and Battalion level positions with 1st Battalion, 333rd Field Artillery, 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery and 202nd Military Police Company.

After his tour in Europe, Colonel Cushing left Active Duty and served in numerous assignments with the Army Reserve and National Guard in Oklahoma, California and Texas. This included service with 402nd Field Artillery Brigade; 40th Infantry Division Artillery; 3rd and 1st Battalions, 144th Field Artillery; 40th Infantry Detachment (Rear CP Operations Center); and HQ, 40th Infantry Division. Some of his assignments were as a Battery Commander, Division Artillery Counter Fire Officer, Battalion S3, Brigade Fire Support Officer, Battalion Executive Officer, Field Artillery Intelligence Officer, Assistant Fire Support Coordinator, Deputy Fire Support Coordinator, Detachment Commander, Acting G1, J1, Acting G5 and Division Space Operations Officer.

Colonel Cushing’s service includes training missions to Japan, Korea, Thailand and multiple locations across the US. He volunteered for mobilized service in California, Texas, Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait as a Brigade S3, J1 for JTF Vista, Embedded Training Team S3 with the Afghan National Army and Provincial Mentoring Team Chief with the Afghan National Police. His final assignment was as Deputy Program Director, Logistic Civil Augmentation Program Forward - Iraq, with Army Sustainment Command, 2011 to 2012. He retired in 2012 after 30 years of Active and Reserve service.

In addition to his service with the U.S. Army, Colonel Cushing worked for a wide variety of civilian employers, including over 8 years with General Dynamics as a Collective Training Specialist and Scenario Writer. In this position, he helped design and execute pre and post mobilization Command and Staff collective training exercises for Army Reserve and Army National Guard units. Colonels Cushing and Anderholt now reside in San Antonio, Texas, with their son.
