Biography

Colonel Frank Harman graduated from the Branch Immaterial Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1979 after three years in the USMC Reserve and 15 months of enlisted Army service. His military service includes Cold War and GWOT duty in CONUS, Germany, Korea, and Panama. He commanded four companies, two battalions and a brigade, which included command in the 1st Infantry Division and the U.S. Army Infantry School. He retired after 28 years and 6 months of active service. His highest awards include the Legion of Merit and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. Other honors include Honorary Colonel of the 11th Infantry Regiment, Distinguished Member of the 11th Infantry Regiment, Distinguished Member of the 29th Infantry Regiment. He is also a recipient of the Order of St. Maurice, Primicerius and the order of St. Barbara.


Colonel Harman joined the U.S. Army Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2015 and served as the Secretary and Vice President of Administration. In 2019 he assumed duty as President and Chief Executive Officer. Frank is credited with developing the organizational goals and objectives of the Association, establishing the management by objective business practice in order to evaluate project success and to focus organizational resources. The result was the assignment of projects to members of the Board of Directors to encourage independent action followed by tangible results. Specific projects led by Colonel Harman included Association support to the OCS Battalion and each class, Association support to the OCS Hall of Fame, development, and management of the Memorial Walk and Wigle Hall. Colonel Harman was recognized for leadership, project management and financial support to the OCS Alumni Association, fellow alumni, the OCS Battalion and OCS candidates with the 2018 Nett Award.
