Commissioned initially as an Infantry officer in 1959, General Leon Salomon would later transfer to the Ordnance Corps in 1974. Following a tour in Vietnam and graduation from the Air Force Institute of Technology, General Salomon began working on developing automation systems to support the Army’s global logistics operations. A phenomenal logistics leader, he served as a Maintenance Battalion Commander in Germany and later the Commander of the 1st Cavalry Division Support Command. As the 23rd Chief of Ordnance, General Salomon promoted a teacher-mentor approach to the training process – a practice that continues today. In his last uniformed job as Commanding General, U.S. Army Material Command, he reset the logistical footprint of the Army following the post-Cold War/Desert Storm drawdown. He is a recipient of two awards of the Army Distinguished Service Medal and the Legion of Merit.
